So long for now

My kids saw the blog the other day and reacted differently than I expected. My daughter does not want me sharing our life with anyone. Maybe she is right. It may not be my place to do this. I thought that by being anonymous, I could... I am not sure what. So this is it for now.

Just another Wednesday night

It's 4 pm. We get home. My girl's friend is coming for dinner. What is for dinner? Blah, blah, blah. It's Pad Thai. I can do it from scratch but tonight the sauce is from a jar. Lots of tofu, some garlic chives - or garlic leeks as they are called in the local Asian grocer. I surprise everyone with Korean Enoki Mushroom Pancakes. The Asian grocer sampled them one Saturday. The woman who made them told me the ingredients and I found a recipe at My Korean Kitchen. They are easy to make and get a surprising welcome form everyone.

Dinner was on the table at 5:30 and we made it out of the house just after six. Off to school for movie night. Did you know that The Muppet Movie is almost 2 hours long? Amazingly, small children really can sit still for this.

Home at 9:15, guest gone at 9:30. Kids are wired. Their dad gets home from the hospital just as they are falling asleep. Goodnight all.

Long days

Today, or should I say yesterday was a long day. The 'get the kids out of the house' routine went better than usual. Maybe the kids were well behaved because they missed their dad  last night. He was out 'til the wee hours of the morn at the hospital with his dad. All should be okay; that's the good news.

With everyone out this morning, I was able to prop open my slits of eyes and get some laundry done, take a shower and get to the kid's school just in time to take them for lunch and their dentist appointment.

YUM!

We has a lovely lunch out. It is a special thing, to sit with your kids in a restaurant in the middle of the day. It seems almost sinful because they should be in school. We had plenty of time to munch on delicacies like smoked meat and corned beef sandwiches with fries and the most decadent marscapone blueberry french toast with caramel sauce. Whoever came up with that had a well stocked fridge and some leftover bread!

No drill today...

Off to the dentist! Despite the fact that my boy has outgrown all of the toys kept in the hidden drawer of the over-sized square table in the waiting area, he insists on playing with them. He remembers all of the toys that are there, just as he does in the doctor's office. Their appointments are staggered. I have two children with two very different mouths. Lots to discuss with the dentist: one may need braces and the other will need braces - oh yeah!

The dentist has an industrial Keurig coffeemaker. It is a tradition that the kids get a hot chocolate on our way out. It is not a quick process. The kids have to do it themselves. They wonder how the k-cups disappear after they are inserted and the hot chocolate is dispensed. I open the slot to demonstrate how the k-cup holder swivels and drops the cup into an internal trash bin. This is high tech! A coffee for mom and you think that we would be off - but no... they are fascinated with the extra-terrestrially round rubbery ice cubes that sit in the creamer bowl. The pick them up and roll them in their little hands. They ask to keep one of them. They want almost everything they see. Did I mention that they are 9 and 10 years old? Finally, we leave the dentist office.

Did someone say Wal-mart?

In Wal-mart we go straight to the cereal aisle where my girl searches for blue pom poms. They are really Sally's Blue Pom Bundles. She ate them at a friend and wants them badly. We buy them and the Marshmallow Moments too. We had these before. These cereals have a lot going for them. They make a better snack than a cereal. My kids still prefer an unsweetened cereal with milk.

Sorry Wal-mart stockperson. We really had to go through all of the boxes of minifigures...

Next we check out the girls clothes and the boys socks. Nothing there. On to the toys. LEGO, I mean. We spend what seems like hours going through the little packs of series 6 and 7 Lego Minifigures. Here is our loot:

The kids each had to decide which three to keep. It took a good half hour to find the ones they wanted. I love Lego. I wanted the Statue of Liberty. I think the kids chose well.

Homeward bound. They are so glad to see their dad's car in the driveway. So am I.

To be continued...
